SAACIP Value Proposition

To provide a single entry point for all role players involved in Competitive Intelligence, to facilitate members' needs pertaining to the development of skills relating to CI, access to resources related to CI and providing a mechanism to address "issues" related to CI

 
 

Vision

To assist in growing South Africa's competitiveness by facilitating the growth of Competitive Intelligence as a profession in support of strategic business decisions

Mission

To advance Competitive Intelligence within the South African Society, through the promotion of high standards of professionalism amongst members, assisting members in developing expertise in all the different components of the competitive intelligence process and initiating dialogue amongst all role players and stake holders

Objectives

  • To provide relevant, high value services to qualifying members
  • To initiate dialogue with government and business which must lead to improved recognition of the CI profession and/or to increased competitiveness of South African businesses or of South Africa in general
  • To develop and enhance legal, ethical and training/educational standards & guidelines

Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct

The vision of SAACIP is to assist in growing South Africa's competitiveness by facilitating the growth of Competitive Intelligence as a profession in support of strategic business decisions

In realising this vision SAACIP and its members will:
  1. Persistently strive to increase the recognition of and appreciation for the profession
  2. Continuously share with each other to grow the common body of knowledge of the profession
  3. Positively strengthen the relationship between the private sector, government and the educational sector

Individually each member will:
  1. Promote the highest moral and ethical standards and relay these to personal and third party interaction
  2. Comply with all applicable laws, domestic and international
  3. Accurately disclose one's identity in interaction with other parties
  4. Respect all requests for confidentiality of information
  5. Avoid conflicts of interest
  6. Provide findings, conclusions and recommendations based on best judgement
  7. Observe one's own organisation's objectives, policies and guidelines
  8. Promote this Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct

Services to Members

  • Professionalism and Skill Enhancement. SAACIP will endeavour to facilitate the development of CI specific skills and expertise through:

    • initiatives to link members with expertise in the field (meetings, conferences, workshops, etc);
    • assessing the need for skill enhancement in the market and addressing it via above or partner institutions;
    • creating an awareness to the availability of tools/resources to facilitate the planning, collection, analysis and dissemination stages of the intelligence cycle;
    • leveraging on behalf of members access to relevant services; and
    • creating communities of interest within SAACIP to facilitate skills enhancement and knowledge sharing

  • Professionalism and Ethics. SAACIP is committed to enhance professionalism in this field through the promotion of ethical Competitive Intelligence practices. This includes the following:

    • Accreditation of members to ensure compliance.
    • Aligning member requirement with educational and training institutions and linking members with reputable institutions. Negotiating requirements for new areas of focus on behalf of members.
    • Linking members with individuals in "partner" institutions to facilitate CI development.
    • Facilitating sharing of knowledge between members (linking members with similar issues and interests)

  • Competitive Intelligence on the Macro Level. Through SAACIP's access to various stakeholders we as an association aim to promote this discipline to optimise the working environment of its members. This includes:

    • engaging government (on behalf of members) to position the Competitive Intelligence profession and
    • engaging business and other stakeholders (on behalf of members) to create awareness, to position the profession within the corporate environment and to provide stakeholders with benchmarks in terms Competitive Intelligence practices
